(Full disclosure: I didn’t take this pic while driving, I took it from the passenger seat while my buddy was driving)
So, I drove a Honda for the third time in my life last night. It’s a 2013 (?) Accord sedan. If the gauge is to be believed this thing gets great mileage in eco mode.
I went to the airport with a buddy and his wife last night in their car, he drove there and I drove the car home. I thought it was kind of funny when I was getting back on the interstate at about 1/2 throttle and the gauge said I was getting about 25mpg. 1/2 throttle in my truck is usually single digits. #v8 life
BTW, the steering wheel in that car is awesome. Perfect size, perfect hand holds, all around awesome.

I got glaucoma trying to read this.

I forced a Cruze to average 10.4 L/100km yesterday. Or 27 Imperial MPG. Or 22.6 US MPG.

I have something for that if you got a dutch.

I know, I my phone camera is a pain in the ass. For some reason the default picture setting always goes back to the “Steady” setting. Which means if I don’t hold the phone perfectly steady the pics turn out like shit. Every time I take a picture I forget to change it. I didn’t want to be to big of a distraction while he was driving, I figured that shitty pic would have to work.

That must have required some effort.

Mmm.

Eco mode kills throttle response and alters the throttle pressure. So in regular mode, 1/2 throttle could be 50%, but in eco mode 1/2 throttle is only 30%

If that’s a serious question, VTEC kicks in, yo, around 4000-4500 rpm or so.

While VTEC in the Accord these days IS, in fact, high cam, it doesn’t kick like the old ones. The reason being that they’ve tuned it for a smoother transition now.

Learn something new everyday, if it had been a rental I would have explored higher RPM’s but being it is a buddy’s car (which he left me with no gas in it) I was gentle.

It was kind of a real question. I don’t know much about Honda’s, except that CRX’s are awesome, but more than that I was driving home from the airport and realized I have only driven 3 Honda’s , quite possibly 2, I don’t clearly remember driving my cousin’s Accord when he had it but I am assuming I did, in my life.

My gf and I took her ‘13 Civic LX on a multi-stop road trip over Mother’s Day weekend. We averaged 38.2 mpg for the trip and that was with setting the cruise at 73 mph on highways.

That is damn good, I don’t think I have ever owned a car that could pull anything closed to that. I can’t wait to see what kind of mileage I am going to pull with blacktruck on our moving/road trip in July. I have decided I will be happy if I can pull 20mpg’s over the course of the whole trip.

My 135is does about 22-23 mpg and on highway trips gets up to 26. My Grand Cherokee...it’s more like 12 mpg in town and 16 highway. Me and my silly idea to get one with the Hemi and put taller, heavier tires on it.

Yes, Hemi life, I haven’t taken the time to figure out my city vs. highway mileage. I have owned enough V8’s in my life to know that that game ends in me questioning my financial intelligence. But, according to the gauge in my truck I average right around 15. I try not to check that gauge too often though.

My Saab gets Miles per Gallon. I don’t know how many of them. But it gets them.

I have actually never felt VTEC kick in (yo). In my 2015 Civic I have the CVT and it might just be geared to not allow that to happen. Then again, I have 3800 miles on it and haven’t really started thrashing it yet. I plan to keep this car for a while, so I’m breaking it in while trying not to drive like a tool

I know that feeling. Don’t forget though, it is a Honda. 5k+ is its natural state.

If you try in the new Accords, you can get up to 43 mpg while cruising.

Confirmed. I’ve driven a couple of the early model VTECs and when I got my TL, I was expecting it to kick in, yo! But rather than kick in, it kinda just arrives.

It kicks in too soon, junior. Duh.
